Capturing a murderer

As you are about to leave Faal Balabar inform you that he is ready for a phony "rescue" of the Assassin. To find out who hired him.

"I need you to formulate an escape plan which we will go over with the warden tonight at dinner. We shall dine in the northern castle yard. I have arranged plans of the jailhouse complex to be brought to you at your quarters. Good luck, and see you tonight."

With that he gets up and leaves the room.

Lamya stands a moment absorbe

Lamya stands a moment absorbed in her thoughts.

Then she says "I'd like some extra leverage with that assassin and his boss. We might make the escape pretty showy but still be at our freshest if Faal Barabar is willing to arrange us a little magical assistance before the 'rescue', like a spell of silence or stuff like that. Or what do you think?"

She looks at others expecantly.

Shamir nods slowly and says "Yes, we might at least check what kind of backup options we could get, whether magical, a few capable fighters following at a distance or something else. The guy himself we can handle, but if we end up bumping into his colleagues and they have similar stuff as he had, things might get a bit tight. It's quite possible that we don't, but there should be little harm in being prepared just in case."

Efrael appears weary this morning, moving slowly and eyelids half closed. He ponders over the matter for a moment and then says, "How about if we go visit him and I simply turn the man invisible. Our host could make sure that nobody with arcane knowledge would be nearby to check for this possibility. When the guards open the cell to examine it, the assassin could sneak out of the cell and simply walk out of the prison with us. But of course we'd still need some means to follow him. I could enchant one person's eyes so that they'd see the invisible, but these two magic feats would already consume a lot of my reserves, so I'd prefer some mundane trick. Perhaps if we could tag him with something visible..."

Shamir grunts "Doesn't sound too bad. And if Faal Barabar could arrange someone of his more magic-capable subjects to do part of the magical effort such as the seeing spell, even better. There's of course the "if", but I don't think he minds if we ask".

Lamya sighs "If it was only matter of following someone invisible, Yipyip could guide us easily - but i don't trust that assassin enough to rely on Yipyip's recognizing by smell when something fishy is happening..."
She plays with the fox for a moment, whilst listening what the others have to say.

"Or perhaps if we were guaranteed to get out quickly enough, the invisibility could be cast so that it will last only some minutes.", Efrael points out.

"That sounds more like it. After invisibility vanishes that assassin need to trust us to get himself out of place and we get more leverage to do what is needed to done.", says Mua'Dib. "Any ideas where we should go with assassin?"

"Well, isn't the whole point of this rescue to find out the assassin's employer? We just have to negotiate being taken to see the boss as the price of rescue before we spring him out." Lamya smiles, then continues in slightly sarcastic tone "Though how we can make sure he'll sticks to his end of deal without trying to get us into some trap needs to be figured out too..."

"I believe we should keep him as our personal captive until Faal Balabar has had the chance to see if his information is correct.", says Efrael. "And assuming that it will turn out that his information is correct I suppose it no longer matters what does he do. I think we should just let him go and let his fellow assassins deal with him. They'll probably guess who betrayed them."

Lamya looks up a bit surprised. "Oh, I hadn't realized how cruel you actually are, cousin..." She winks at Efrael with a sardonic smile.

Shamir looks satisfied, then hesistates before asking "What would we do with him between the initial escape from the jail and the time when we've got the neccessary information out of him? Lead him to some hideout where he would be safe while we'd be arranging him a way out, or something else? And what if he's disagreeing with our ideas, shall we rather browbeat him to do what we want him to, or do we improvise along his plans?"

He then falls back to the more characteristic silence.

Mua'Dib doesn't find any real flaws in basic plan, but wonders whatever "Do we have suitable hideout to use for immediate place to go after rescue if assassin doesn't have urge to go to specific place at once?" He doesn't feel very comfortable about plannig details in area non-expertise and starts to prepare arrow making tools.

Note to GM&party:
- Need to purchase arrow/bolt materials (16 for long bow(6 bodkin, 5 shallowtail, 5 bowel raker)and 8 HCrossbow( bodkin))
- Every non-busy evening making 1 hours worth of work

There is a polite knock, and a man enters and interrupts your deliberations. "Lord Balabar has ordered these to you" he says, and hands you a scroll, and leaves.

When you unroll the scroll you discover it is the prison plans. There is a note indicating which cell the assassin is in. The prison cells are all under ground (and only a small window to let in some fresh air). There is only one entrance, and to get to the cells you have to go through the whole building to a stairway at the other end.The stairs lead down to the cells. There is a portcullis guarding the stairs both up on the ground floor and down below. All in all you have to go through 4 locked portcullises to get to the assassin, and you also have to open his cell door.
